Peter Higgins is professor of outdoor, environmental and sustainability education at University of Edinburgh, and was recently awarded the university’s highest award for teaching. He is director of Learning for Sustainability Scotland, which is recognized by the United Nations University. He has advised Scottish and other governments on sustainability education, and chaired the Scottish government's committees between 2012 and 2016, which introduced learning for sustainability as an entitlement of all learners. He chairs the board of trustees of the Field Studies Council, as well as the Scientific Advisory Committee of NatureScot, the Scottish government’s natural heritage agency.
